The beginning..

I just turned 39 and I'm not going to lie that the idea of turning 40 is a bit scary.  For the first time ever I will say that, just because of the number, I feel like I am getting old.  It is a bit intimidating to know that the big four-oh will be here soon.  Instead of dreading this time in my life I'm going to attempt to take you through a year long journey of my progress of life.  Instead of looking at 40 like it is a bad thing I'm going to set myself an aggressive list of goals to get done prior to 40.

In life it is often hard to get basic things of life done due to the fact that there are no deadlines.  I mean what really is the incentive to get into shape or complete a household project?  It is never actually "due" so we push it to the back burner and say things like "I'm going to get into shape later" and "I'm going to fix that broken ______ in the house when I have time" or "Some day I'm going to travel to ______."

My quest here is to list off all of the items I wish to have completed on my 40th birthday in March of 2018.  The upcoming deadline is a great way to push myself forward and actually set out to complete things versus living my life in an "I'll do it later" mindset.

What follows is a fairly loft set of goals and I will attempt to write about each of them as I work on completion.  At the beginning this is going to start off as just a list but I will get all of these lined to articles that I plan on writing on.  I will also include minor descriptions next to some of these items to help explain them a little more..

- 205 lbs (or less) on my 40th birthday.  As of 3/29 I weigh right about 232 so this will be an on going process.  I've purchased an exercise bike and have been pretty diligent about doing this a few times per week.  I just need to step it up a little and unfortunately cut back a little on my favorite Tito's-Rocks beverage =(.  I'm going to create a chart and put it in my bathroom.  My goal is to weigh myself once a week to track progress.

- Play a song on the guitar.  I bought a guitar quite awhile back.  It just sits on display. I have never once played it.  My goal here is to play any song.  Even happy birthday.  The ideal would be to play along with a Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds song.

- Buy a rental property:  Well that or move out of this current house and into a duplex.   My 40th birthday present to myself will be a rental property one way or another.  Note that my moving may affect some of these other items on my list.

- Build a Concrete counter top:  I have aspirations of an elaborate out door kitchen. I will start with just building one counter top and see where that takes me.  I'm sure it is going to be sloppy but I need to try it.

- Move my shed to the other side of the house.

- Have either a concrete slab poured or wooden deck built on the east side of my house.  The long term plan is to have an amazing out door space but just do one step at a time here.

- Clean out the garage and get camera system up and running:  I Installed a camera system at the house but as it stands it is not really doing anything.  It is hooked up but doesn't record anything.  Additionally I need to add in a wireless card to it so I can sync it with my network.

- Sell my pool table and buy a couch:  My house is a bit like a bachelor pad and I need to get it up to par

- Quote on the wall:  I'm either going to put a positive quote on the wall in my office/gym or in the main space of my living room.  I like them and like how they look.

- Complete the registry:  I have long had a vision for what I believe to be a needed website.  More details to come.

- Live as organic as possible:  Food scares me these days.  I have no idea what most of these ingredients really are.  Are we even eating "food."

- Have a Bordeaux trip booked:  I don't expect to actually complete the trip prior to my 40th.  I just want to have a trip officially booked to visit Bordeaux and or Cognac France.
